One of my best friends

RobbieRIOT 1 month ago185 views

Im talking one of my ride-or-dies was just diagnosed with HIV two weeks ago. His life has been turned upside down because of it, even though like Brat's blog states, it's not a death sentence anymore, there is still a huge stigma attached to it and it's still obviously extremely serious. I used to have major anxiety about it myself, but there are so many ways to prevent it that there really is no excuse. Like, our generation should not be getting HIV lol that's why I was so angry at my friend at first, but it def. isn't about me and my feelings. That being said, making jokes about it, even if you're just "trolling" is SO fucking weird lol. I don't enjoy opening the blogs page and seeing top blogs about someone using it to make jokes. Really don't understand some of you people and I am forever grateful for that lol.

Eastenders have changed my perspective on HIV recently. With medication they can get your viral load down to the point where you can still have unprotected sex and even have children. All the best to him.

My IRL best friend has HIV and you're exactly right, its not a death sentence, but making jokes about it isn't fucking funny at all. Some you all need to grow up. I hope you NEVER have to find out what that's like. My best friend has trouble regulating his temperature, struggles sometimes to get his medication, and is tired for no good reason at all. So wishing that on someone is the lowest of the low. Please do better.

I was really young when the HIV/AIDS started. I remember how people excluded those who had HIV/AIDS because they were afraid to catch it. I remember being a sophomore in high school (1993) and we had 3 citizens in our community come to talk to us about HIV/AIDS and the kids in my high school were so fucking ignorant. One of them was a gay man and the whispers and giggles that came from my class was really frustrating. (I was in school in the 90s where you were an outcast if you were gay or bi...you can imagine how my fat ass felt about being bisexual and not being able to come out because of how the 90s were) I am so glad that things are different now. HIV was a death sentence when I was a teenager. We had one teenager who had HIV through a blood transfusion in our school but no one treated him any differently. If you were gay with HIV though....forget it. The stigma is real. Back then, and even now...depending on who you talk to.

It should not be as stigmatized and we should talk about it more often so people will not act weirdly about it anymore. Science has improved a lot since the 70s and it will CONTINUE TO. HIV is treatable and with good treatment and patience, and HIV+ person can achieve the undetectable status and will not sexually transmit it to others, let alone be as affected as once people were. I understand being really scared about it because it's a dark umbrella surrounding our community for years but we HAVE to get informed about it and talk about it more freely. I'm sorry for your friend, he will be fine in due time. I have many friends with HIV that lead a very healthy and amazing life.

It’s a beautiful thing that science has begun to basically eradicate and also prevent the disease as well as be able to treat it, but people don’t understand the horrible history that’s had to happen to get to this point. I hope your friend gets themselves into a good spot and can live happily and healthy.

username I love talking about all the progress about the disease that so many people just have no idea about. I share stuff about it every year during pride and always get comments about like "wow I had no idea!" etc. He is getting there SLOWLY but he's getting there <3

People are so grossed out by condoms and forget the entire generation that came before them. I can't imagine what your friend is going through and sending them love and light as they navigate this new chapter of their lives 💕

Nick He went 100% reclusive for the first week. I had to reach out to his mom to make sure he was doing okay (he had already told her) and she and I had a long talk about it. He is slowly starting to come around and make strides even though his insurance fucking denied him coverage of his Biktarvy so he has to figure that shit out too.
