The real gag of it all is that like the same sort of resource intensive computing is true of even just a google search. Like every time you type a query into google you might as well be pouring a bottle of water on the floor. The natural resource thing is only part of what makes AI "bad" imo, I think the real issue is the way it's just making people dumber and devaluing the arts which have always been attacked.
as a very dumb person Bradford is right, i didnt understand this either but i know the data center for the Twitter AI is in some small rural town in Tennessee and it like smells like chemicals outside all the time apparently
Because the servers that have to be built to help ChatGPT run are usually built in places where the land is cheap (ie. places where poor people live). The servers that run are basically a bunch of computers, and all of those computers need to be cooled somehow, so they take the natural resources in that area (where poor people live) and use it instead. This also makes it more expensive for the people (poor people) who live there to live

MaxOra I think in parts of Texas and Iowa are their main ones but they've been expanding recently

Yea this confused me when I first heard it I think it’s because to run their servers / support their infrastructure you have to keep the rooms cool or something which takes water??? Idk it really makes no sense to me
Honestly clock that, you’re asking questions I’ve always been afraid to ask myself. But AI still bad, but let’s look at the bigger picture.. a lot of things are also killing our natural resources and nobodies ever talking about that!
