is it true
that the us doesn't have public healthcare? like, what do you guys actually do if you need to go to the hospital, do you just have to pay for everything out of pocket? what if someone literally has no money?
i guess i'm just way too used to brazil where i don't have to pay anything for any medical treatment and even get free medicine, but looking at this reality makes me feel more and more like capitalism has failed and will always fail lol

Yeah also the health insurance companies say they will cover hospital stays and surgeries. But it seems like most of the time they don't actually cover any of that stuff. Well they won't cover my hospital stay even though they are supposed to. They said they dont want to cover my hospital stay because they think it wasn't medically necessary for me to be admitted to the hospital. But I could have died if I didn't go to the hospital. So it was something serious that I went to the hospital for. And the doctors had to admit me to make sure I didn't get worse
Sapphire that's so absurd... they basically hold you hostage in a corrupt system that's literally designed to protect big corporate profits instead of human lives.... decision-makers sitting in an office deciding if your life-threatening emergency was "necessary" is just dystopian i'm so sorry you had to deal with all this stress on top of being sick but i'm really glad you were able to recover and that you're okay now!
Robyn Yes I agree it's stupid that the insurance company feels like they get to decide when it isn't necessary for someone to be admitted to the hospital. They should not be the ones who decide something like that. And it's stupid that the insurance companies only care about making money and they don't care about the lives of people. Thanks so much for saying that you are glad that I am okay now too.
I live in the usa. We do have health insurance that we can pay for. But health insurance is a scam it seems like. Because they wont pay for anything that costs over 10,000 dollars. Like I have a hospital bill thats 26,000 from when I was in the hospital for 2 days in February of 2025. My health insurance company is supposed to pay about 20,000 for the bill. But they wont pay anything. So the hospital is trying to get them to pay. But so far they haven't paid. And its getting close to 2 years since I was in the hospital. I bet the health insurance company still won't pay anytime next year either. Its ridiculous
Sapphire wtf?! $20k out of pocket for a two-day stay is completely insane... i'm so sorry the state literally neglects your basic lives like this. the private health insurance system is such a total scam and a giant fallacy. they collect money from you every month, but as soon as you actually need care, they do everything they can to deny coverage and run away from the bill. it’s infuriating that health (something that should be a fundamental human right) has been completely turned into a commodity for profit.
Robyn Yes the total hospital bill i have is $26,000. My health insurance company is supposed to pay $20,000 of it. and I am supposed to pay around $6,000 myself. It's just stupid that the health insurance company is trying to avoid paying it. I don't know why the hospital bill has to be so expensive for just 2 day stay too. Because I didn't have to have any surgeries. But they did do about like 5 or 6 different tests on me. So I guess the tests cost alot. And I am sure they charge alot of money for me having to stay in the hospital room. And they charge money for the food that they gave me. But yeah it still shouldn't be that expensive for a 2 day stay. I bet it would cost like $80,000 to $90,000 if I had to be in the hospital for a week. But luckily I didn't have to stay for that long.
it's bad in EU too, long waiting lists and a healthcare in theory but that practically covers nothing
gamar suck!! honestly, this happens in so many imperialist countries... capitalism just keeps failing us every single day.
i still have a $1,900 medical bill to pay from when I fainted in June and ended up in the Emergency Room.
goldelli i'm so sorry you're going through this, that is completely absurd... wait, if you need to call an ambulance/emergency does that get charged too? if so, how on earth did people just accept this as normal?
Robyn yes an ambulance is actually probably more expensive than the medical bill you are left with! I don’t understand it, but it’s why so many people get sick and refuse treatment and die at home.
goldelli that is honestly beyond inhumane... it's just mind-blowing to me how a country can spend trillions building wars to colonize half the world, yet can't provide quality, free healthcare for its own people. here in brazil our public system isn't perfect, but if you have an emergency, an ambulance picks you up, you get immediate care, proper treatment, even surgery if needed, plus your meds, and you pay literally zero dollars.
we go into debt <3
