Explain it to me like I'm 5
I'm in no way defending Nena by writing this blog, because I have had almost no interactions with him on this site. I'm not saying what he said was acceptable to say to someone, and I personally wouldn't ever stoop that low in an argument.
However, I did a little bit of research before writing this blog. According to UNAID there are approximately 41 million people in the world living with AIDS. In 2025 570,000 people died from an AIDS related cause. I get that it's a horrible disease, I've personally seen what it can do to people. However, this isn't the early 90s or before, where an AIDS diagnosis was practically an automatic death sentence. So, please explain to me like I'm 5 years old, why there is THIS much outrage over an inappropriate comment. I'd be more offended by someone wishing death upon me than wishing I got AIDS.

aids isn't a death sentence, but it's incredibly stigmatized and historically WAS a death sentence. i would rather someone tell me they hope i die than they hope i get aids because it's A) obviously rooted in homophobia even if the person saying it is gay; B) wanting someone to suffer physically, mentally, and socially; and C) fucking weird as fuck.

gay I appreciate this. This is what I was looking for, and I thank you for that. I understand the stigma behind it and the history of the disease, hell I was alive in the middle of the AIDS epidemic. But, your 3 points were the answer I was looking for. See Lover this is how you reply.

Especially to the LGBTQ+ community its like a very intentional comment to make with the stigma around it But I wasn't acting like it was the worst thing in the world. Miami I think with your comments on my blog, it was fair for me to see this as trying to defend someone that doesn't need to be defended. But I read it again and can see that you were trying to take a neutral stance so I apologize. But I dont think anything I said was something that should elicit such a reaction either.
