statement on events
okay so i’ve seen a lot of comments/complaints about events feeling random times and people being upset they miss them. i wanted to share my two cents on that aspect.
i totally understand how having set times is better to fit into schedueles and avoids checking the blogs page over and over again. and honestly, despite there not being a set time 9/10 times there’s always at least 10 to 30 minutes or so to sign up for a special game.
i also just want to state that hwest14 connor and myself host these games in our free time whenever we have a bit of space in our busy daily lives. having set times for events is just an unrealistic expectation as we have a life outside of kovaze as well. we have been looking into a way to make a realistic solution for this, but standard times each day is just not realistic as we all have work, friends, family and much more responsibilities in life beyond hosting games on kovaze. we do these because we enjoy it, want to see you all have fun and it’s kinda like a hobby thing and a hobby should stay something fun in your free time and not become a daily/constant obligation. just please know that we hear you and are looking for a solution that is realistic for both parties
when it comes to the games you have to enroll yourself, i do think those could be announced a little beforehand. i do think that these should stay special and i personally don’t want to host them as much anymore as they are expected multiple times a day and events should always feel special in my opinion. if we throw puzzler arena at yall 24/7 youre gonna get bored of that eventually too.

These are just my thoughts based on what I'm seeing. I think set times would be better. This gives people a time frame to decide whether they want to play. I do think the window of knowing should be longer. Personally, if you know you are free that day, announce it at the beginning of the day (KOV Time), and that will give PLENTY of time for people to decide whether they want to play. Don't do sign up's till closer to game time but at least a heads up. If you had more members, you all could set up a schedule so one person doesn't have to do this every single day. I think transparency will help, and since most users are adults, this is basic 101: when you are given the info, the ball is in your court to decide whether you want to participate in the event, not the organizers. You did everything you could to spread the info. Also, I think (this is not for everyone), but there needs to be a limit on how many happen per day or so. Learn to say "NO". You shouldn't be hosting 15 games in one night all because someone needs to fix of Relic's Frenzy. Why are you catering to the needs of one or two people when this is a site for EVERYONE??? I know some people are joking, but some is just childlike behavior and for soemthing that is now daily (the events) they can wait. Have a set amount of games for that day and that is it. You all need some boundaries because if you don't people will be expecting more and if you don't provide that, blogs like this will be happening and the cycle of BOOO Events staff will happen again. This means no more "I'm bored, let's do a special game," because that would ruin the consistency you're trying to represent. Now if there was a game that was test-running a new mode or something that Sin wants to do, then different story, but if it is just a regular event game, then maybe don't. It is giving the vibes of "I have these GameMaker Powers; let's just have fun with vibes, when I don't think that was the sole purpose of them (I could be wrong, idk what goes on in the inside world of that). Now, you did mention that you see this as a hobby for players, and I don't think that's the best fit for a site like this. I see hobbies like knitting, scrapbooking, and hiking. Things you can choose to do whenever you want. These games we don't have full control on. Plus, you have to monitor everyone's behavior and make sure everyone follows the rules (which idk if event members even have mod powers, but still). That is a big responsibility, and I feel like hobbies shouldn't go that deep. Idk what would replace "hobby". You also mention how the events staff is doing this on their free time...yeah but you choose when you want to do it. It's like being a host for a group game. It is your choice what to do, but your responsibility for how it goes. You are not being forced to do it (if Sin is, let me know and I will call HR), and if people are begging and whining like a baby, then treat them like one and let them whine and cry till they stop. Don't give in to their demands, especially when they are rude and disrespectful. I also think the term "event" is losing its touch when there are so many of them. An event is supposed to be a special occasion, but these things have turned into the norm...but that's a whole different story. I do think there should be other people who should take this position to alleviate the stress from you three, but I think it should be people who use it in a way of just setting things up, monitor it to make sure nothing breaks, and having boundaries of how many games happen during a time frame because the begging and whining is annoying and shows the idea that if you keep doing that you will get what you want which is not a good mindset tbh. Possibly two to three people from each region (US, Europe, Brazil) to ensure that all bases are covered because accessibility is important, and it isn't fair for people to be up at 3 AM their time for something that is happening at 7 PM EST. We can flip it around! But ty for all you do and the patience you have, because this is not a tough community service job. TLDR: You're doing good; fuck them, haters. If they ain't paying those bills, pay those bitches no mind. I said other important things too but it probably will be ignored, but at least read the encouragement part.
i understand but that's also part of being "staff". when you are a moderator for a discord server or do events for a server, it's still an expectation that you show up. maybe if it's not sustainable with a team of 3, sin could add more people onto an events team rotation. if there was 5-7 people in theory ONE person would be online to start some games. it's also not fair for everyone else who is online all the time, to see someone from events team join a race and suddenly it's a special event chain pop race. that's just selective to the event team member, not the site as a whole.
brookie i wanted to host something and asked the people that were already enrolled if they were okay with that. had the answer been no, i wouldve created a different game for it. i figured it was easier to change rather than create another race. to say we havent shown up is really not okay tho, as there have been events every single day so far so thats just a weird take girl icl.. but youre entitled to your opinion always, i just dont rlly agree nor think thats a fair statement to make
melanie i didnt say you didnt show up. i said if there was a set time and someone is considered a "staff" member, even voluntarily, its an expectation they show up. whether it be on kovaze, a discord server, or other website/game. if there is an hour or two window and someone thinks they will NEVER EVER be able to be online during that window(s)... then maybe do not sign up for the position? no one is asking someone to set an alarm and be online at 5pm EVERY SINGLE DAY. but if its a team of 5+ people... and NO ONE can be online ever ?? thats a problem.
brookie and that expectation to show up has been met every single day so again, i don’t really understand what you’re saying. a solution for the time thing is on its way, but patience is appreciated in that process.
melanie and as ive been saying, we have been looking into solutions but rome wasnt built in a day either
brookie I agree with needing more. Like Mel said they have lives outside here and it’s unrealistic to expect them to dedicate all their time to event games. BUT adding more staff members that can at random times add comp specific games would be a good solution.
Disneygeek I love the comp specific games. But I have also seen MANY people complain that they do not like them, and people do not join games when they are happening or THINK they can happen. So they have also asked that these games be hosted at specific times so that way ALL THE OTHER TIMES... the other games can fill without people feeling like they need to wait around and not join a game because they will miss special ones.
we gotta check up on brookie whenever u guys r offline she starts going crazy for a puzzler arena. And then I have to log onto chibisha to be an events members for an hour to fix her cravings
x I got same craving right now
x you did this once you useless twat
