Clown is the virus.

We do not have time to fear hantavirus or ebola when Clown walks the Earth each day. The planet has a sickness and we must cure it right away by spilling his blood in the streets. The world will heal when the blood of the clown soaks into it and is absorbed in the dirt. The Earth will purge the blood from its system by vomiting it out into space, and then alien hands will reach to claim it as it crystalizes and floats like an asteroid.
