Reading is fundamental

Tide 2 hours ago37 views

I used to love reading books, but I don’t think that i’ve been able to find any authors I like. Please advise bookvaze. Benopolis Zachbbs Lolicapolica I haven’t read in forever, and I used to LOVE the divergent/hunger games/etc YA series. I guess it’s the idea of practical fantasy I love. Also side note: That’s why I love when people post really long blogs on here. I enjoy a good read, but chapter books have been my perferred method. I’ve tried manga but it’s just not for me!

I'm a big fan of George Orwell, books like 1984 for example. Last thing I read was "Down and Out in Paris and London". <3

lolicapolica i haven’t read 1984 so i’m definitely going to now. Lots of agreement on that one. I’ll check out Down and Out in Paris and London!

Tide You're gonna love it so much, first part can be a bit boring but it's important for how the book develops after, have fun

You kinda just have to dig into a book and find what genres you like. I like the classics generally, some horror/thriller type books are good, etc. Honestly? Just get a library card (or go to a book store) and look for 10-15 minutes, you'll find something that looks interesting. Thats always my method.

Zachbbs I definitely can get paralyzed by choice. Can you recomend any classic artists worth going down a rabbit hole on?

Tide It really depends on what your interests are. For me, Oscar Wilde is a good choice (Picture of Dorian Gray being a very easy first choice of his, a bit boring but id say a great read overall). Dostoevsky has a few short stories and nuggets of wisdom worth reading. Franz Kafka is a personal favorite, ‘The Metamorphosis’ is short, thought provoking, and worthwhile. Oscar Wilde is probably a bit more accessible than the other 2 I listed, both of which can sort of veer into pretentious territory which can be aggravating (but still very worth the read!!!). Count of Monte Cristo is a long book, but a great story, and not very pretentious. I find older literature even if written in a bit.. lofty of a manner.. let's say.. fun to read and pick apart. There are tons of classics that I haven't read, and i'm sure many that would be of interest to you as well if you look further.

I love reading so much, I’ve probably read about 15 books this year so far which is low for me, I do read more in the winter

Tide2 hours ago

Britt What’s your favorite read that you’ve had this year, and one that reminds you of wintertime?

Britt32 minutes ago

Tide probably The Passengers by John Mars - that was a wild one, plot twisty Rock Paper Scissors by Alice Feeney is the most wintery setting I’ve ever read and it’s really good, thriller and plot twisty
