i mainly only play race on this website so i feel inclined to give my opinion on the current discussion
- qualifiers
i think the qualifiers were a great starting point to change the gamemode, afks are a problem of course and implementing this sort of solves this problem. i think using the qualifiers the remaining players should then be split into teams depending on their placements; so 1st gets paired with 18th, 2nd with 17th, etc. this makes it so there's a little bit more of a purpose to the qualifiers and it makes it interesting and puts more of the blame on the players for the team selections as opposed to it being completely random. if you don't want a "nuke" then maybe you should've scored a little bit lower and risked your odds, etc.
(1st place individual gets the ticket for their team; so there is incentive to not throw)
- filling lobbies
i love race having 10 teams but i do think in the long run a fast game consistently filling 20 players just is asking for a lot honestly, i mean most roblox servers with more players can't even fill this. i think possibly lowering it to 18 players and then implementing a final 2 to suffice the rounds lost could benefit the gamemode.
- minigames
i think more minigames like flakes, shapes, codebreaker, etc. where the scoring is really tight makes race more interesting because you could score well and get transported out and that sort of makes the game more unpredictable/challenging with trying to maintain your $. plenty of good teams get sniped out all the time on these competitions, so maybe more minigames where the scoring is like this would be a good idea.
other than that, i don't think race needs that major of a change. the shop idea n stuff looks super cool and well thought out, i also do appreciate the effort put into changing the gamemode. but maybe that idea should be used for potentially another new gamemode instead of putting it in race where imo it feels a little bit more unnatural to the current flow of the game.

Also long term if lowest and highest are paired together after round 1 it would just be a throw fest which would kill the idea of it
Would be nice if there are different styles of how the qualifiers impact the game. Kinda like how arena has different game modes, where we don’t know what the result of qualifying round is until after it happens (would prevent people from throwing on purpose to pair up with a better player. Would be cool to see 3-4 different types like 1. 1&18 2&17, etc. 2. Random pairings 3. Draft style reverse (18th picks their partner, 17th and so on. 4. Other (I don’t have the brain power to think of more)

I support you. I'm not a fan of the scoring system personally bc I don't want to have to throw (i wont need to if its chain pop) to try and get a good partner and that's just me personally. Being punished for being decent at the comps bothers me and I'd personally just stick to Arena. I'd rather take my chances with a random partner than doing well and getting the worst partner on the cast... I'm probably alone here but that's just me. Love what else you said though

i dont think the ranking system would work bc then a pro still gets a nuke or people will score low to have better chances at being paired with a strong person idk
melanie i find this factor pretty interesting though because high scorers would potentially have to score lower and risk getting purged for a chance of getting a better partner; puts more of the team selection on the players themselves so people cant complain about randomly getting paired with "bad partners".
