Is a deeply misunderstood song. It's about sticking by someone regardless of how the internet smears them, knowing that the tabloids don't have regard for the actual truth in situations, and that it doesn't matter. She's saying she cares and is gonna stand by them regardless of what the press says, because the press has done it to her too, and she understands. She's not gonna play the PR game where who you're friends with is based on what social media thinks of you, because that's so stupid. She just cares about people as human beings, and is basing her friendship on what's important. She has sympathy because she knows just how much people twist things, she's gotten so much shit her entire career when she didn't even do anything.
Taylor is extremely liberal, and for some reason people falsely assume that the song is about having MAGA friends?! I'm pretty sure it's about Blake Lively. Watch Miss Americana, you'll know where she stands. She has photos with people she met becuase Travis Kelce plays football, she's not gonna do research on every single person she meets, that would be insane to do, and she's gonna be nice to strangers because it would be insane NOT to be. Saying she's supporting their politics because she took a photo with them once is crazy, and it's clearly not the case. When she talks about "did you make a joke only a man could" She's calling out double standards. That's the point of the entire song, and I think people just want to assume the worst.
