It puts those of us who aren't native English speakers at a clear disadvantage. While native speakers might score around 40k or 50k, most of us hover around 20k. It’s one thing to miss out on competitions due to a lack of skill, but being disadvantaged simply because you're competing against someone with total command of the language—when you don't have that same fluency—should be reason enough for such a competition not to be considered part of the game at all.
