I'd say it's safe for women, still not safe for someone who's outwardly queer. Weather sucks, everything is expensive, and mistreatment of foreign labour is a big problem like Adam said. The only thing I like about it is crime is almost non-existent and it does feel safer to walk out at night than it does in most places I've been to.
