Pdubs Cooking Tips: Onions

Welcome to my new blog series where I will share tips on how to take your cooking to the next level. Today's topic is Onions.
Onions are a game changer. One common mistake beginner cooks make a lot is relying solely on bottled seasonings and spices for flavor. Seasoning your food is necessary but on its own can taste flat. One of the many ways to add more depth of flavor to your cooking is to add onions!
Here are some ideas:
Say you are making a meal that involves ground meat. Some simple and quick meals that involve ground meat are tacos or pasta with marinara sauce. Before adding the meat to a pan, finely dice the onion and then saute it on low to medium heat until it gets soft and lightly browned. Then add the meat and cook as normal.
An easy sheet pan dinner of roasted vegetables, potatoes, and chicken can be easily taken to flavor town with some sliced onions! Add your roasted veggies (example: brussel sprouts), diced potatoes, and sliced onions to a pan. Season with salt, pepper, and other spices of your choice. Drizzle with olive oil and mix it around so everything is evenly coated. Add marinated chicken to the pan and cook in the oven at 425 degrees F until the chicken is at least 165 degrees F and the vegetables are cooked through.
Does chopping onions hurt your eyes? Make sure you’re using a sharp knife, and wear goggles.
