Furries as a community is creating characters or personas that are anthromorphic animals, they aren't wanting to have sex with animals it's about creating a character to express yourself as, think of it as a drag persona, drag queens and kings dress up as this character to express themselves in a way that they aren't able to in their day to day life. It's their form of art and furries are similar
Yes there's a huge nsfw section regarding furries and there's quite a bit of discourse regarding that in the community but at the end it's not just having sex with animals it's literally about expression and identity but a majority of furries out there isn't just about sex and adult entertainment, it's about the community and creation, they don't think they are legitimately the animal it's mainly just a persona they use to really express themselves as stated before

Shenellica actually if you did your research a lot of the origins of the fandom came from a sci-fi convention and comics that posed a question "what if these characters were animal chatracters like a cartoon" and it went from there. Sure there was a bunch of stuff that was rooted in NSFW interactions and satire comics, a lot of it is based on community and identity
If you dont understand then you really have no right to sling insults, im sure youve experienced communities you wish to be apart of that people constantly criticize and berate you for. They are also living in reality, because at the end of it they have a community that are going to support them for having similar interests.
