New Special Race Idea
We had Coke Race and Broke Race but have you heard of...... Choke Race?
How it works: The race has QUALIFIERS. Your ranking in the qualifier determines your partner. But there's a twist! The lowest score from quals will be paired with the highest score and this continues going up (so like, the 1st with the 18th, the 2nd with the 17th, the 3rd with the 16th, etc)

I also think the idea you proposed was mentioned before, but people said it would be manipulated. Some high scorers would purposefully score low to be paired up with another high scorer.

Zombie Alexa Race: Alexa starts the Race game as the sole zombie, if she messages you "RACE" you also turn into a zombie, have to join the race, and message someone "RACE" to turn them into a zombie and they must join. This repeats until the race is full.
