Today's slate is packed to the gills! Lots of great soccer matches and a full slate of baseball ahead too. Who said August was boring??? . . . We begin today with a handful of UEFA Conference League Qualifying Matches. A total of 153 teams compete in the qualifying system of the 2026–27 UEFA Conference League, which consists of the qualifying phase and the play-off round. Of these, 20 teams enter through the Champions Path and 133 through the Main Path. The 24 winners of the play-off round advance to the league phase, where they join the 12 losers of the Europa League play-off round. We are already on the third and final qualifying round where 8 teams (6 winners of the second qualifying round and 2 losers of the Champions League first qualifying round that receive a bye) will face off! Winners will move onto the play-off round. . Today's matches are: . F.C. Kobenhavn (Denmark) v. Debrecen (Hungary), 11:00AM Central, ESPN+, F.C. Kobenhavn lead 3-0 on aggregate. . STAYING IN SOCCER, we take a look at the UEFA Super Cup. The UEFA Super Cup is an annual super cup football match organized by UEFA and contested by the winners of the two main European club competitions: the UEFA Champions League and UEFA Europa League. Aston Villa, 2:00PM Central, CBS Sports Network, Paramount+ . . . TO CLOSE OUT THE SOCCER PORTION of today's events (yes, I know there is a lot more soccer out there, I feasibly cannot touch on it all) we take a look at the Leagues Cup! 7 games today as we wind down to the end of the League Phase and approach the Knockout Phase. . We are approximately 45 days from playoffs, and teams have about a dozen games left. How will the final quarter of the season play out? . . Tonight's games are: . . . . . Toronto Tempo (10-22) @ Dallas Wings (19-14), 7:00pm Central, KFAA-TV, TSN, USA Network . Chicago Sky (12-21) @ Golden State Valkyries (23-9), 9:00pm Central, CNBC, CW26, KPIX+, USA Network . Minnesota Lynx (27-7) @ Portland Fire (13-19), 9:00pm Central, Fox 12 Plus, Victory+ MN, WNBA League Pass . . . . Summary: Not much to add other than the Lynx are the best team in the league right now and it isn't particularly close. A loss from the Tempo would almost certainly condemn them to elimination from playoff contention. Same for the Sky. Can any of the lower record teams pull off an upset? . . . Thanks for reading. Yay sports!
