i think over time the "y2k" aesthetic has morphed into its own thing. its now like encompassing of 2000-2009 in the minds of younger people. its no longer about 2000 or the actual event of y2k
Sprite the theme was called y2k but then it said in the description "a look that embodies the year 2000" On a personal level, just hearing y2k aesthetic, I would go with 1999-2002 I get that to people born in 2005 or later it all blurs together but as someone who lived through it all, the 00s as a whole are great, but definitely not all y2k.
