120 Days in Sodom is disturbing because it is perfectly plausible in relation to reality. Four ordinary but perverse and very powerful men represent the four powers: the banker, the priest, the president, and the duke. They are four very disturbed men, but the film is realistic in its portrayal of the horrors of fascism and powerful men bored with conventional sex.
