Can someone tell me
Exactly what castings was? I'm curious to exactly how it worked.
I've read that there was a random comp every now and again, it was very social and not really any strategy - I'm just curious as to what the goal/sort of format of it was (genuinely asking bc i'm nosey).

I think there could be a system where, during each 12-hour day, only five pop-ups appear. The game could keep track of how many have already appeared, so players would always know the count. That way, you wouldn’t have to stay online constantly—you’d know whether all five had already spawned or whether there were only one or two left, instead of feeling like you had to check every few minutes. I also think there should be a balance between the competitions and the pop-ups. The pop-ups could simply provide small advantages rather than deciding everything. For example, one pop-up could give you an extra 30 seconds to complete your next competition, while others could offer different minor bonuses.
Dimitra popups could respawn once the previous one left the page (15 comments). It could take a whole day or 31 minutes depending on how active the cast was.
Evan like this idea too
Dimitra I like your ideas, you seem to try to want to find the balance of people not being online constantly but still trying to play, socialise and play the competitions etc.
Connor yes the balance will be great
For those who didn't know, in most games you were able to +/- comments For castings, you would gain checks each update (randomly came every 30-99 minutes) depending on how much your best comment was plussed. So +2's gained more than +1s, etc. Check counts were the most important part in regards to WINNING the finale. There was a competition played each day which helped determine nominees. If you were the lowest three scores, you were probably going up. However, there were two popups in the game (apples & keys), one of which (keys) could help you survive going on the block. Each key you found would automatically save you from being nominated one time. However, it never told you when a key was "used", so it was kind of a guessing game at times. You had a health number as well starting at 10%, if you commented 3x in an update than you gained 1% during the update, and as long as you had 1 comment in each subsequent update, you kept gaining 1%. If you were inactive for long enough, you would drop down, with 0% results in your death at the next update UNLESS you were currently nominated. If you were nominated then you would die at DC if you were not voted out and were still at 0%. Apple popups gave you a +10% boost to health but were pointless once you were anywhere over 30 really. Nominees were up every 12 hours, three to start with (voting system of everyone voting 3/2/1 and whoever had the most went home) and dropped to 2 noms at Final 7, which were usually the surviving F8 noms unless one got a key. Not even half of this was actually explained, just figured out through the years of playing. People thought no-lifing it was the way to go HOWEVER all you really needed to do was check in every hour or so, make a comment or two to stay gaining plusses, and maybe have it open on your phone/second monitor from time to time to get a key where you could. Being on it 24/7 was unneccesary
Evan Thanks Evan. Yeah I wanted to know more about it because I love the idea of it, just not if it was going to turn into a Royale style situation where people just stay online all day and night to collect pop ups.
Connor It definitely was not like how royale is. Royale you should have your screen open the entire game for popups, or if you get attacked. If you miss 2-3 hours then you're hopelessly behind unless you have connections to a lot of the cast. With castings, you definitely wanted to be there at the start since most people were online and plussing. You could get +11s and 12s out of a 20 person cast on day 1 and get a lot of checks, whereas the rest of the game you'd be lucky to get a +4 or 5 on account of people dying/getting voted out/not all being online at the same time. After the first two updates or so, maybe 2-3 hours, you really could just go update by update. Truly I don't think many castings fans were doing it for the karma or T$ payouts, they just liked having a place to go chat and be in a chill game which is why so many people want it back
Evan Yeah I like the sound of it to be honest. Seems good for the socialisers and people who want to play something more light hearted
My overall consensus: I'd support y'alls fight for a castings style game as long as the "not stepping outside to breathe" part of it was less rewarded. I personally don't think it's great to have any game that rewards people are online all day at every possible moment, but I love the other parts.
Connor The no lifing debacle of castings is why Sin is very hesistant to remake it from what i know. He finds it very dull and not really good for the site but also the ppl who liked castings didnt mind the no lifing so i mean idk
o_o thoughts? sin
o_o Castings was the least gamebotty game of all the TG games, people just liked to be able to go talk to other people and not have to worry about dealing with strategy of it all. I feel like this issue is being overblown tbh
Connor It’s one of the best games someone can play if they don’t want to play purely strategic games. There could be all kinds of different variations, but the core gameplay revolved around the random pop-ups.
Dimitra o_o, Nikky said something to me such at "what if the popups were known times" and it got me thinking what if they were at certain intervals through the day night (a 10 mindow window per interval) but at several time zones so people knew in advance and wouldn't have to sit all day unhealthily waiting?
The best and most funny games were called "20 post castings". Yoh could only post your ENTRY COMMENT. And only about 1 or 2 keys would pop up in the entire 10 day changes. You'd have to rely on plusses on your entry comment to get the most active points. People would "plus for plus" upon entry and then a bunch of people would lie and neg your comment to have a higher +/- rating than you
There were 20 players, and throughout the day (each “day” lasted 12 hours), random pop-ups would appear, similar to Royale. For example: * 🔑 Keys – the more keys you collected, the safer you were. * 🍎 Apples – these gave you an extra “life.” Every 12 hours, everyone also competed in a competition. Your overall standing was determined by a combination of your competition performance, the number of keys you collected, and the number of apples you had. On top of that, being active in the game’s chat earned you extra checks, which gave you additional points. All of these factors were combined into your overall score before the day reset. The three players with the lowest overall scores became the nominees for elimination. Once the nominees were determined, everyone voted by giving them 3, 2, or 1 points, depending on who they wanted to eliminate the most. The player who received the most elimination points was sent home. That’s basically what I was trying to explain to him as clearly as I could.
Dimitra I lowkey love this. It combines almost everything. My only thing is that does that mean you would have to be extremely active at times to do well?
Connor yes, thats wht peeople hated about castings but also what some ppl loved about it. Some ppl dont like the strategy they just wanted to like talk and talk and make friends,
o_o My only downside would be no lifing like people do in Royale. I think it could almost be perfect it didn't turn into an unhealthy "people staying up for 2 days to collect keys/apples" kind of situation, but I wouldnt know the balance of that
Connor If you no lifed castings you were always going to win unless everyone ganged up on you to neg you so u wouldnt have checks, but castings in general was a very pro friendly type of game. No one wanted to do all that bc the point of it rly felt like it was to meet new people and not strategize.
Dimitra this is pretty accurate and thorough. There were 'updates' at random intervals like 15 minutes to 90 minutes or so and thats when either the key, apple, or a 'blank' update would happen. If you commented and got even just 1 like that update period you would get more checks. I found the checks were most critical because the person with the most checks got more time to complete the comps.
Goomybear What??? I never noticed that the people with the most checks got more time to complete the competitions lmao
Dimitra well they got the 150 seconds. then the person with the second highest got 145, etc. 150 was always the base time.
Goomybear wow never noticed that lol
Dimitra Goomy is right. Whoever had the most time had the most checks. You always knew if you were in first place in checks or 2nd, or 3rd.
Dimitra Yeah, activity played a major role. If you weren’t active enough, you could end up “dying” and being eliminated from the game. That said, I think a format that doesn’t require you to be so active would be fantastic—especially for those of us who prefer more chill, laid-back games.
Literally u would just nominate the newest nominee cuz they were the noes who spoke the most compared to the person who kept getting nommed back to back
Weeklong game. 3 noms. they were based on a plethora of things. Including but not limited to health, amount of keys, random chance. The more active you were the more your health would go up. You had health so apples would spawn in the chat to keep your health up. If it hit 0 you were out. Keys would spawn in the chat to keep you safe. You had a ranked vote out. so you'd rank who you wanted gone each round.
Nikky It was 4 noms aswell if i remember if no one died but usually 8 ppl would die in the beginning
o_o no you're right. It started at 4 noms, then 3, then after a while it would just be 2 i think
Nikky Ty dear <3
there was some strategy but very obvious and minimal. You would talk and ur comments will get plussed, and based on how much u spoke and got plussed u got checks which were important to not being nommed. But keys would popup where it would save u even if u werent as active so u would need to stalk aswell. And if u didnt talk ur health would go down and u would literally just die and be out of the game. Also there was challenges but i dont remember if those were that important but u def had to do them
o_o ty birthday boy <3
