Melanie tried to answer the loss immediately. She found Brat crossing one of the frozen rivers and trapped him inside a violent snowstorm. Ice formed over his orbs, and for a moment it seemed like she had taken away his greatest advantage. But Brat was not only a long-range mage. He moved through the storm with terrifying speed, closing the distance before Melanie could reinforce the ice. His mana claws tore through the snow around her, and his four orbs broke free one by one. They struck from different directions, shattering her defense. When Melanie fell, the cold around her faded with her. Nettles believed the day belonged to him. With Maris dead and his ink beasts spreading through the garden, he thought he could control the battlefield from a distance. But akaliuchis had been watching him weaken himself. The moment his painted army spread too far from his body, she turned on him. Dead hands rose from beneath the roots and grabbed his legs, arms, and throat.
