Etherea
🫧 Capital: Luminara, the City of Living Light
🫧 Motto: Per Luméa, Ascendimus (Through Light, We Rise)
Etherea is ruled by Glinda, the Luminary Sovereign. She is beautiful in an indescribable, otherworldly way, kind in how she speaks, elegant, and always composed. She stands as the ideal of perfection that no one questions and all aspire to achieve. No one really knows anything about her beyond that.
Ethereans only ever see her during ceremonial public appearances or when they are summoned to her palace. Once they have been in her presence, people usually change: the differences might be subtle, but they are noticeable. Disappointing her is not something anyone talks about, but no one seems willing to risk it either.
As a nation, Etherea did not develop over time, it simply appeared one day, already complete, with no early history nor trace of how it came to be. It is often said that the country sits closer to the sky than the earth, and that is usually where the explanation ends.
Life feels calm, but always poised. Citizens carefully curate how they sound and how they look, even in the smallest of moments. Aurelian, the national language, plays into this by softening anything that might be perceived as conflict or unevenness. Stepping out of line is not called out, but it is noticed. What does not fit in does not seem to last, it simply disappears, with no one really acknowledging it. Life goes on, and what was is soon entirely forgotten.
Luminara, the capital city, is built of crystal and mirrors, and decorated in pale gold and soft pink. People catch glimpses of themselves constantly, leading to subtle, automatic adjustments, the kind that happen without thought, like breathing or a heartbeat: a straighter posture, a softer expression. Over time, it becomes difficult to tell whether they are changing or simply unveiling what has always been there.
The music feels ethereal and hypnotic.
