and some people might think it's silly to post about something like this on here, but there's a very real chance that many professional degrees will no longer be considered professional degrees in the US. as a result, student loans will be stripped away for those pursing teaching, social work, nursing, business, physician assistant degrees, etc. it isn't news that there are already shortages in fields like teaching, social work, and nursing, and these student loan changes will contribute to these shortages as less people will be able to pursue these programs impacted programs/degrees: business (MBA), education (M.Ed./Ed.D./Ed.S.), occupational therapy (MSOT/OTD), nursing (MSN/DNP), physical therapy (DPT), physician assistant (MSPAS), public health (MPH), social work (MSW/DSW) i might be biased because i'm in the social work field, but these changes will be detrimental to healthcare, education, child welfare, and people who need mental health services, social services, etc. people currently in these fields will be impacted as well as future students. if you think these professions are meaningful, work in these fields yourself or hope to, or know people who do, leaving a comment encouraging the DOE to recognize these as professional programs and maintain federal loans is one way to show support :) https://www.regulations.gov/document/ED-2025-OPE-0944-0001
